What to do in this HEAT!

Was sitting here at the Steady Point Homestead, under the weather, wishing for a cool spring day, instead of down right summer temps. I wish for a 50 degree morning, out on that Wyoming County Back road, collaring up the Steady Point dogs and hitting that logging road that I found last year. Lots of birds back there. A chance to put the two young dogs on gobs of grouse to fire them up! The chance to see them work in the cherry stands. The sound of their very distinct bells ringing and then the silence. "A Point" As I walk closer to get to them, I hear the rush of wings and the bells start to go. Briar gives me her familiar bark to move up to where she is, as the feathery thing has left and it went this way.

I know lots of folks think I'm nuts cause I think I know what my dogs are thinking and they know what I'm thinking. Well being a man, it doesn't take much. I'm thinking about killing a grouse. Multiple if I can. Woodcock too! I know there were a few thinking I was thinking of the female of the our species! There will be enough time for that, when I return home to the Steady Point Homestead, after the dogs are taken care of and the truck is unloaded.

Oh I wish for cooler days. I think of times when my wife will join me once again in the coverts. Seeing her holding my grandfather's 20 gauge SxS, slowly moving up on a brace of dogs on point near a barberry bush. The Point, the flush, then the shot! In a puff of feathers, a bird is down. Oh how I wish for cooler days.
